Temat postu: Crushers hope to remain undefeated
Crushers hope to remain undefeated
Those are the questions surrounding the Weeks Crushers starting the regular season off 30, but head coach Jason Malone said he wasn't sure where he expected his squad to be entering their fourth game of the season.
"Obviously we wanted to be 30 to start off the season, but we didn't know if that was realistic," said Malone. "In Summerside we were up 32, but it easily could have been 53 for them. We have been playing well, but giving up leads like we have hasn't been good. The bounces have gone our way, but we've also proven to have the skill too."
That said, Malone was happy to see that his team was able to extend a lead in in their third game of the season against Bridgewater. Tied 11 after one the Crushers scored four goals in the second period to open up a 51 lead.
Tonight against the Yarmouth Mariners, the Crushers will hope to do those same things, but will have to be on their game as both teams are still undefeated. Malone said the game will also be a statement game, with the Mariners currently in the top half of the Maurice Bent Division.
"This will be huge for us regardless of the outcome," he said. "Last season they had our number and I'm sure the returning guys remember that. They will likely be towards the top of our division this season and we want to be right there with them."
Moving away from the obvious focus on wins and loses that the team has, Malone is also facing his own dilemma with his goaltender situation, although it's not a regular problem.
When most coaches have a goaltending problem it is generally based on poor performance. In Malone's case he still has three goaltenders on his roster (Nathan Perry, Dylan Frank and JP Boucher), each have a win and are playing well.
"This may be the toughest goaltending situation I've ever had to look at," said Malone. "Right now they've all shown they can get the job done and they all bring slightly different things to the table. Thursday I'll go with my gut on the guy I have the most confidence in."
Malone said that they are doing their job in making his decision tough, but said he hopes to see one stand out from the rest in the next few games. He also said that it is too early in the season to tell how the forwards and defensive react with regards to who is in goal.
"Boucher had the opening win, Dylan had a 40 plus save performance in Summerside and Nathan helped us keep our lead in Bridgewater so they all did big things," he said. "We are strong in the goaltender position right now,www.floware.fr, but hope to see a standout soon."
