Out of the blocks
NEW GLASGOW Randy Henley and Morgan Priske are eager to see what they can do against topcalibre competition.
The Pictou County residents will be in Halifax today for the Aileen Meagher International Track Classic, at St. Mary's University.
"To be running with those guys will be awesome," says Henley, a Pine Tree resident who runs the 400m for the NNEC track and field team. Henley, who will enter Grade 12 this fall, won silver in the 200m this spring at the NSSAF track and field championships.
The 17yearold is ranked sixth out of the competitors who will run the 400m tonight. His personal best time is 51.16.
"We're running against people that are tops in Canada," he said. "I'm looking to finish third or fourth."
Priske, a Grade 9 student at NNEC, also runs the 400m. Her personal best is 1:01.42, and she says, "I'm trying to break a minute," in the 400M.
Also running tonight will be New Glasgow's Luke Demetre in the 200m, and former New Glasgow resident Katie Campbell, who now lives in Halifax.
NNEC track and field coach Trevor MacKay says Priske will be matched up against some very experienced sprinters, asics singapore.
"The girls running against Morgan will be 20, 21 years old, in their running prime, and Morgan's not there yet."
A number of elite athletes are taking part in the meet, including topranked Canadian 200m sprinter Adrienne Power, Canadian 10,000m champion Eric Gillis, and 800m specialist Geoff Harris.
